All the wordings in your stationery are tailored to your specific requirements. While I can advise on wordings appropriate to your personal circumstances and style of event, it is up tp you to approve the final version. There are a few factors that will determine the wording on a wedding invitation:
1. WHO IS HOSTING THE WEDDING?
Who is the invite coming from? This will most likely either be the bride's parents, the couple themselves or perhaps the couple with their parents.
2. WHAT SORT OF TONE DO YOU WANT TO SET?
Do you want your invitations to have a formal, traditional feel or would you prefer something a bit more casual, friendly and informal?
3. IS YOUR MARRIAGE TAKING PLACE IN A CHURCH OR IN THE SAME HOTEL / VENUE AS THE RECEPTION?
This will determine how the specifics of the time / venue / reception details are handled.
Answering these questions will help you pull together the wording. See the addressing guide for more advice on addressing etiquette.
SAMPLE INVITATION WORDINGS
Below are some of the more popular wording options to get you started. You may find you want a combination of one or two different elements so mix and match if necessary. In all of the examples, the more formal style of wording has been used. However, if preferred, the wording can be made less formal by making a few changes:
The host names can be changed to Andrew & Elizabeth McDonald
(as opposed to Mr & Mrs Andrew McDonald)
The guests would then be invited as John & Mary Smith
(as opposed to Mr & Mrs John Smith)
“request the pleasure of the company of....” can be changed to “would like to invite...”
